Get Well Wishes

The call went out  over our Northern Stars Unit web site for Get Well cards for a sister Close to My Heart consultant.  I don't think I have met her, but she's sick and I have been sick and I know it can be really tough.  It's my turn to give back.  So this is the card I made September 18th (before I started playing pirate).

You can't see it well in the above photo, but I messed up by using a Colonial White card and envelope and then choosing paper with a bright Daisy White base.  I thought that it would be horrible and that I would have to start over again, even though had already painted the bear, but then I realized that I liked the contrast.  The inside of the card really brought a sense of relief and restfulness to my eyes.

Sometime, I will choose to design a card with contrast - on purpose.

This blog has been a draft waiting around for this last little section...

Here's a new (to me) way to curl your paper flower petals.  I learned this from Carolyn who learned it from some people who were selling a product to accomplish this technique.  I think I was able to do it my own way.  The specially designed system had a nice soft giving surface - we have the Versamat, or, in this case, the spongie-Strofoam-like sheet that comes in every CTMH stamp set, and a fat stylus.  My stylus came from one of the big craft stores, with a coupon, a couple of years ago.  I can't remember what I bought it for, but it was really useful for this!

As you can hopefully see in the photo below, I depressed each petal in a little circular motion.  It made a little dimple and slowly, as I went around the entire flower, it began to curl and become more 3 dimensional.

If you do this with larger flowers the effect is much more dramatic.

I have no idea why it took me so long to finish this, but now that it's done - another box to check off!!
