It doesn't even look like English, does it?). Wow, another challenge, this one by way of one of the facebook groups I hangout in a LOT!!! ****<br />
<br />
I joined another swap. Nothing new there!! I find that I almost HAVE to join swaps to MAKE myself create these days. My lack of motivation is almost an entity in itself. We do battle daily, wrestling to see who will win. I am not proud to tell you that some mornings I admit defeat before even suiting up. I do have strategies for conquering my foe however, and one of the main ones is to commit to these swaps.<br />
<br />
So, this particular swap was to create an Artist Trading Card, 2 1/2 X 3 1/2 like a baseball card. I had heard of them before and Googled it, but then was so intimidated that I didn't pursue it. Go ahead, <a href="http://www.google.com/search?q=artist+trading+cards&noj=1&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=qLyvUZWNMIaGrAHW_4CoDA&sqi=2&ved=0CGoQsAQ&biw=1366&bih=653">click here</a> and you'll see what I mean!! Now you are wondering why, if I was intimidated by the thought of even attempting an ATC (gotta learn the lingo!!), then why on Earth would I commit to making them to trade with people??? Well, first, I am my Mother's Daughter!! She always has to try out anything new that she learns about!! It's usually a new cooking technique in her case. Secondly, the group is full of nice women who I knew would accept whatever I came up with!! Lastly, I am quite simply a glutton for punishment!! Seriously, it looked like a nice challenge and I new I had it in me if I just didn't chicken out.<br />
<br />
The theme was "Your Favorite TV Show," so that was easy because I LOVE <b>Veronica Mars</b>!! OK, not the easiest choice in the world, because I love a lot of other shows too, but I LOVE<b> Veronica Mars</b>!! I watched the DVDs of the 3 seasons before falling asleep for about 3 years straight. I am not kidding. I have no idea how many times I have seen them over and over - Seasons 1,2,3,1,2,3,1,2,3,1,2,3,1,2,3,1,2,3,1...., so coming up with icons from the TV show for this card was only a matter of whittling them down to which ones would work well.<br />
<br />
Whenever I think of Veronica Mars, besides Kristen Bell and the rest of the cast, the first thing I think of is her messenger bag from the first season, so I decided to go looking for images of it, then find canvas at JoAnne's, then sew mini ones to put on the cards. Oh yes, another thing I learned from my mom is not to do things by halves. If you are going to do something, do it right, or not at all. (That may explain the state of my house!! LOL) I found a remnant of the perfect colored canvass to make 4 Veronica bags and started sewing. I was only able to find 4 camera charms, but that was enough for the 4 bags, and only 3 people had signed up for the swap, that left me one!! I also found some notebook-paper-lined card stock and have some stamps that reminded me of the doodles from the introductory credits from the first two seasons. It was coming together nicely.<br />
<br />
I left on a long trip to see my parents and when I returned, 8 people had signed up for the swap... Hmmm. I could not procure ANYMORE of the perfectly colored canvass to sew more Veronica bags, and also there were no more camera charms ANY WHERE. GRRRR.<br />
<br />
I put the project aside for a while. Something would come to me. Maybe I would just go with a different color canvass or try to dye it. It had been all working so well, but suddenly it had gotten hard and it wasn't fun anymore. My grand plans had been thwarted!! Curse you Red Baron!!<br />
<br />
Finally, under the pressure of just a few days left before the swaps needed to be posted, I got my bright idea!! Take a photo of one of my mini-handmade-Veronica-bags and affix that to the card, and use camera image Washi Tape to replace the charms. I was back in business!!<br />
<br />

For Tommy's birthday weekend we took him to (OK, you've already guessed ^^^) where we happened to meet Aaron Ashmore who was in (Did you guess it again??) Veronica Mars!! He was Troy Vandegraf in the second, third, fourth and fifth episodes, and then he came back late in the second season for a reprise. I had to ask him if he was going to be in the new V.M. movie and he said that he had read on the internet that it was a rumor!! LOL I said that I had read that as well, but I was coming to him as a better source!!</div>

I introduced my daughter, Lisa, to Aaron and she was a bit stunned. I suppose that that happens to him all of the time. He stood up and shook her hand and turned on his smile!! OH MY!! I got caught in the BLAST!!!<br />
<br />
Aaron was signing autographs and also doing a talk about Warehouse 13 (which we also watch) with Eddie McClintock, who decided to join us in our photo. We had no idea until Lisa and I heard his voice in our ears as he was looking over her shoulder at the camera asking, "Did it turn out? Can you see me??" Such a shock to turn around and see him!!!<br />
<br />
Guess I'll have to make a Warehouse 13 ATC, so I can post the better photo of Eddie and tell you about our wonderful conversation with him. What a nice guy!!!<br />
<br />
Meanwhile, GO! CREATE!! Use some of your stuff - YOU KNOW YOU WANNA!!!<br />

Roll Mini AlbumI'd like to welcome a really special friend, Toni Herron, to my blog family. We met through facebook and she is an inspiration with all of her beautiful paper crafts. I love to see what she has been up to on her blog, and learn to try to speak like an Aussie!! She is a really quick crafter and such a sweetheart!!<br />
You can check out her wonderful blog here: <a href="http://toniherron.aussieblogs.com.au/"> Toni Herron...Scrap Crazy</a><br />
<br />
Yes, I have been MIA from the blog scene for a while, but I have been crafting. I recently made a Toilet Paper Mini Album for a swap. It sounded like such a fun thing to do and I have long collected T.P. tubes having been a pre-school teacher, so another use for them really caught my attention.<br />
<br />
First find 4 nice T.P. tubes and flatten them with a brayer, or just with your fingers and some heavy books.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGDLzdiHTH4VQugpphvvJmqmqwIRpaXDdwSMObn3lugAnCl_7tAYv6xE1o_QBxJKZFctasMdVC2vYMJA_veGU1RL3netyFLQ7T3Q2j6zQv8SPK4tAxtQ5d8RjW-bTadACgcffqffAFMPeK/s1600/P1040087+Fixed+WM%2527d.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGDLzdiHTH4VQugpphvvJmqmqwIRpaXDdwSMObn3lugAnCl_7tAYv6xE1o_QBxJKZFctasMdVC2vYMJA_veGU1RL3netyFLQ7T3Q2j6zQv8SPK4tAxtQ5d8RjW-bTadACgcffqffAFMPeK/s320/P1040087+Fixed+WM%2527d.jpg" width="313" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Four T.P. rolls all dressed up!!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
I took my little card stock sample papers to the store to find matching paint. Painted the T.P. tubes inside and out, let them dry and then measured them and started cutting paper just a bit smaller. The girl that I was making my mini album for loves shades of blue and butterflies, so that is what I concentrated on.<br />
<br />
Each flattened T.P. tube page makes a pocket, and therefore needs a pull-out tag. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiEpiUo3IMrx2D7RIdsOdumdJdPa4h9Ev_2fgVVzLlqGqltLtnWvi_umUqKPEJvbJnbtmHQ4KADRj4cOYxifAN9Q2inEg9nBQGqN0Bdwpwveg26JxDUWRGLf6Z7qTy26F5qR6Im33Mby4J/s1600/P1040088+Fixed+WM%2527d.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="144" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiEpiUo3IMrx2D7RIdsOdumdJdPa4h9Ev_2fgVVzLlqGqltLtnWvi_umUqKPEJvbJnbtmHQ4KADRj4cOYxifAN9Q2inEg9nBQGqN0Bdwpwveg26JxDUWRGLf6Z7qTy26F5qR6Im33Mby4J/s320/P1040088+Fixed+WM%2527d.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I added the charms on a cute little picture hanger that attaches with a brad. I had to place it on the end so that it wouldn't interfere with the pocket, so it's a little awkward. I am going to try this again on a different kind of album. I really like the idea - it just wasn't quite right for this. (Oh, the little photo comes out of the oval charm, so she can personalize that.) :)<br />

The swap was supposed to have a Spring theme. I kinda flunked that except for the butterflies and this wonderful quote, "anything seems possible in the spring!"<br />

For the last page I wanted to add something interactive - because that is the kind of thing I really like. I had these little hinges, so I attached a flap and used a pretty brad to secure it - just tuck it under and it stays closed:<br />
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td></tr>

So when the flap is untucked and opened it looks like this:<br />

Since this is the back of the Album, I wanted it to look nice. I was happy that the wooden butterfly that is serving the purpose of a pull tab, is also placed so nicely with the Washi Tape. I think it looks cute.<br />

<br />
It really didn't take me very long to make and I had so much fun with it!!!<br />
Almost all of it is retired CTMH products so the matching was a breeze!!<br />
<br />
You should make one!! Some T.P. rolls and paper scraps!! I had to buy LARGE rivets big enough for the book ring, but that was the only specialty item. Everything else was foraged in my craft area (except the charms - I forgot!! Got those especially for this.)<br />
<br />
Hope you liked my baby album. GET CREATIVE TODAY!!! <br />

It is a way to make a layout in pieces, you know a bit at a time, and arrange them around your photos. You can put some photos on cards, mat some photos, whatever really. It's your book, your life. <br />
<br />
This is a card I made for a swap that had a month theme. I signed up for February because I love this paper!!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkfDVowyBt7fyG2d-Np_QAwPqSNVCHZ0YPp5CrXf9IONWuYmci4a7AZnQkPPG05tucc2-9CxZ4g9aPNHzUFvQj83w2U2jd1Vy_eJx7hVTYJxjarFpAmdMdUd7xUWqYBmXqiFoYQjQnRcX6/s1600/P1030601.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="232" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkfDVowyBt7fyG2d-Np_QAwPqSNVCHZ0YPp5CrXf9IONWuYmci4a7AZnQkPPG05tucc2-9CxZ4g9aPNHzUFvQj83w2U2jd1Vy_eJx7hVTYJxjarFpAmdMdUd7xUWqYBmXqiFoYQjQnRcX6/s320/P1030601.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
It's a retired paper and stamp (Cherish the Day S1111), but you could make something similar with other paper. I stamped the lines using another retired stamp, Recipe Box D1364. It's always handy to have stamps with just lines!!<br />
<br />
Once again, I had fun sewing on paper. I pierced the holes in all of the cards first using the <a href="http://karencreate.ctmh.com/Retail/Product.aspx?ItemID=4186&CatalogID=169">Piercing Tool Kit.</a> I love it because it has it's own foam to put under the paper, so I don't have to go looking for something else - or be tempted to do something inappropriate like scar the kitchen table!! ;) Then I just sat in front of the TV and sewed the buttons on one evening accompanied by my furry doggie-friend.<br />
So snuggly!!<br />
<br />

Yes, well, the others are in the backlog of artwork that I have yet to blog about. Oops!!<br />
I'll show some to you now!!<br />
<br />
First for the newest ones:<br />
I made this 4" X 6" Journal Card with <a href="http://karencreate.ctmh.com/Retail/Product.aspx?ItemID=7150&CatalogID=1894">For Always</a> paper. It was really fun to play with, especially with the <a href="http://karencreate.ctmh.com/Retail/Product.aspx?ItemID=7163&CatalogID=176">Black Shimmer Tape</a>. So rich looking!! I put a layer of vellum over the writing design so that the lines can be used for journaling. I don't know if you can see the grey sparkle on the upper left corner, but it shows up in real-life!!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4fJT3fE0m4ay2WBEmVE-gBS69S5x-ZJS1bbZotHoKCxcwm16xak34bC32lrmNtJuwgReIjaJiFI3k2ezCShUFP4BOhLPfzPK2f07m3hQhRv0E53YCqybhblfa-7pNufyIrhxeH4fTSdjz/s1600/P1030789.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="211" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4fJT3fE0m4ay2WBEmVE-gBS69S5x-ZJS1bbZotHoKCxcwm16xak34bC32lrmNtJuwgReIjaJiFI3k2ezCShUFP4BOhLPfzPK2f07m3hQhRv0E53YCqybhblfa-7pNufyIrhxeH4fTSdjz/s320/P1030789.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I couldn't decide which paper I wanted to use, so I decided to go for a sampling of each down the left side.<br />
<br />
Next I made a 3" X 4" Journal Card made with Chantilly:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_arbtiZyl5Qemju5o5O8TL87PeTU6oXFcmcJ723GM-8o7tmhvoi02wp09K9fKsNDexHQw3-bcvnACf-wVUoeRAmkxtvOepoeG_drutMO8QZS4opkUbSoi3wBI4Biy9GetICKeZ-Y6mLK8/s1600/P1030791.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_arbtiZyl5Qemju5o5O8TL87PeTU6oXFcmcJ723GM-8o7tmhvoi02wp09K9fKsNDexHQw3-bcvnACf-wVUoeRAmkxtvOepoeG_drutMO8QZS4opkUbSoi3wBI4Biy9GetICKeZ-Y6mLK8/s320/P1030791.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
These were fun because each one looked different. The frame stamp is an OLD one (Frame of Mind D1201) I cut those out by hand. I love the Cricut cuts, but it's fun to cut crazy sometimes too!!<br />
<br />
Now let's see if I can find some of the others that I have around here...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYOBEbQ5CID7jGMbvQORNAHuVJwE6HAQ9uCVpYt5VF7I-bkFsQHXBzWwy4XaiGq5VX5gRFFArKYrdF8OR3HvcDw9L0w15h2tTUObFuh6m9BKQbqdOAs9tdYj69HlV-lsBjq1xJ2CaY7PjL/s1600/P1030605.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="234" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYOBEbQ5CID7jGMbvQORNAHuVJwE6HAQ9uCVpYt5VF7I-bkFsQHXBzWwy4XaiGq5VX5gRFFArKYrdF8OR3HvcDw9L0w15h2tTUObFuh6m9BKQbqdOAs9tdYj69HlV-lsBjq1xJ2CaY7PjL/s320/P1030605.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I went wild with the Dotty For You paper on this one. Used the Xact-O Knife and cut around each wing of the butterfly paper, popped them up and inserted some foam tape under there. I sewed Xs over the printed Xs on the paper in the center of the butterflies also. That was really fun. No sarcasm. It really was!! :)<br />
<br />
Lisa cut the vellum on the Cricut for me. I inked the edges with the <a href="http://sweet%20leaf%20pigment%20block/">Sweet Leaf pigment block</a> and embossed it with clear embossing powder. Loved the effect. <br />
<br />
You can't see it in that photo, but under the vellum there is a stamped image:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEij2yhlhcAK0KbubCBCwYBFa4A3EchdfnxJ1M7ZT3sCtPLHd0iB4v57huq38o5CvJCJoh2mC61X1PqayeKqvSh05k1XNFfjH23DNiMWC4mtPGORJE8iZ765SsivB2KM-vpEbumUUoJPd_O8/s1600/P1030606.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="175" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEij2yhlhcAK0KbubCBCwYBFa4A3EchdfnxJ1M7ZT3sCtPLHd0iB4v57huq38o5CvJCJoh2mC61X1PqayeKqvSh05k1XNFfjH23DNiMWC4mtPGORJE8iZ765SsivB2KM-vpEbumUUoJPd_O8/s320/P1030606.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
OK, I've been such a slow blogger lately that I decided that I should save the other cards for another blog TOMORROW!! <br />
<br />
Go get Creative,<br />

</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Today starts a brand new month (and how did it get to be March already??)<br />
and a brand new Stamp of the Month!! This stamp is called Floral Happiness S1303<br />
and this is my finished card, keeping it CAS (Clean and Simple) just wanted to show off the stamp!!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1pgm29fHnDfhXHAc8UedPEITp2ErmVcAoKeXp4dlNv8NK2bC211C8WmgW6vcdJ3L1vyL0y2q4A48yeTYVrrD4RVCv9VIkij0s-gc9WdjUuKXxeyt-ySy1tSKeAa6xgauGa7bR0MaWQtQu/s1600/SixWithBorder.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1pgm29fHnDfhXHAc8UedPEITp2ErmVcAoKeXp4dlNv8NK2bC211C8WmgW6vcdJ3L1vyL0y2q4A48yeTYVrrD4RVCv9VIkij0s-gc9WdjUuKXxeyt-ySy1tSKeAa6xgauGa7bR0MaWQtQu/s320/SixWithBorder.jpg" width="234" /></a></div>
<br />
I only used the middle-sized rose stamps. It takes two stamps to make this image. I practiced lining them up on scratch paper first and figured out what worked for me. It was looking closely at the lower right corner (I'm talking about the green image here) and matching up what I was seeing there and along the bottom, then the rest just fell into place. Mastering this on scratch paper took the anxiety out of the rest of the project!!<br />
<br />
This is Floral Happiness S1303, so that you can see how each rose image is made from two stamps.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjAy-U1G6rQK7GT8NvquLVFCODi4FLQCzEfzwgTI30RYo3dZZlH2VCep8b-bsaP8djqwt107Tfiz7EJ2wLA68J0y-qzJbVIQYhf6pjtoGzQ7TPyDxj_RdVymIr9gmH3gFJCsp-wa-cGH5VM/s1600/Z1303.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjAy-U1G6rQK7GT8NvquLVFCODi4FLQCzEfzwgTI30RYo3dZZlH2VCep8b-bsaP8djqwt107Tfiz7EJ2wLA68J0y-qzJbVIQYhf6pjtoGzQ7TPyDxj_RdVymIr9gmH3gFJCsp-wa-cGH5VM/s320/Z1303.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
BUT what if I only use one stamp? Carolyn (my Art Therapist ;) and I were discussing this on the phone. I had thought of doing this on a small strip of card stock, but Carolyn suggested doing it on a larger sheet to see what might appear. I haven't tried the largest stamp yet, but here are my experiments thus far...<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWUymZYarXs5Qs0ggFpNJgjbGZgF-I2QkCOI6XW8qIlH2ESGgWgyB4b1IEurgZdLEpMRgjku2dINTVZA6tsDUmKQ_Cgcs5-a8_xHImyLQwaf1ir4HEzZvR8pdriF6HvdUy7kaaxPOdVut9/s1600/ColoredRoses.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWUymZYarXs5Qs0ggFpNJgjbGZgF-I2QkCOI6XW8qIlH2ESGgWgyB4b1IEurgZdLEpMRgjku2dINTVZA6tsDUmKQ_Cgcs5-a8_xHImyLQwaf1ir4HEzZvR8pdriF6HvdUy7kaaxPOdVut9/s320/ColoredRoses.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Different colors help maintain the floral image.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Now for two different tries with Hollyhock tone on tone. The top strip uses the smallest rose which looks very much like a flower no matter what you do with it, but the bottom part starts looking less floral as I ran the images into each other. Still a romantic look when done in the Hollyhock. Definitely looked Valentine-like!!<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi27r7KH2L7iDZvF4tTpEaFjABGP1Zjhy-0kkrKsGzewPADSCsFRmsdvPqtxFunrVGZYtcOfDwVD3-EARi_1kg84cnj42jEqOkEYIf7YPhkt13wOaL6AvBLbLuUQPZLBkDbCUhocN5puI4t/s1600/RedRoses.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi27r7KH2L7iDZvF4tTpEaFjABGP1Zjhy-0kkrKsGzewPADSCsFRmsdvPqtxFunrVGZYtcOfDwVD3-EARi_1kg84cnj42jEqOkEYIf7YPhkt13wOaL6AvBLbLuUQPZLBkDbCUhocN5puI4t/s320/RedRoses.jpg" width="258" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWI0lMzh8uGZ5aCCl2lsFTgBCSmbVAIvgpruGsjvlZpUWUct3XHq76pMcjx0SfJYb2kU524WnZ7nN_7AoKfPVP_vKUShUHOEMm-jKo6ZVgYliBWV-fOigyQasaMPIKXfUQj5TV1c7A0NbC/s1600/BlueRoses.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="283" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWI0lMzh8uGZ5aCCl2lsFTgBCSmbVAIvgpruGsjvlZpUWUct3XHq76pMcjx0SfJYb2kU524WnZ7nN_7AoKfPVP_vKUShUHOEMm-jKo6ZVgYliBWV-fOigyQasaMPIKXfUQj5TV1c7A0NbC/s320/BlueRoses.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I used Sky ink to help detract from the floral feel of this stamp.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Again, I used the same middle-sized rose, but made lines of it right-side up then up-side-down. This distorts the rose lines so much that they become almost meaningless. I can't wait to use this paper!!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
More experiments, but this time played around with what the stamp was intended for!!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTs_GKaRA1vB6Asab1B3o-vJx2XR4HrDK7_QWeq5Vm7X-kJzaq_tpVduEPKzaB5g-PaWxm1fJ2rxrAj83xWF4y5gch8_gZWtTlIATlTENe_qxehMGATKw4aAS88R34MAbNAwvLccF8kcMu/s1600/ThreeRoses.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTs_GKaRA1vB6Asab1B3o-vJx2XR4HrDK7_QWeq5Vm7X-kJzaq_tpVduEPKzaB5g-PaWxm1fJ2rxrAj83xWF4y5gch8_gZWtTlIATlTENe_qxehMGATKw4aAS88R34MAbNAwvLccF8kcMu/s320/ThreeRoses.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Will post more cards for you tomorrow!!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Hope that you have a wonder-filled creative day!!</div>

Paper piecing isn't for everyone because it requires a bit of detailed cutting (and I made 16 of these cards), but it was totally worth it. She is such a cutie pie. I ended up naming her Annie.<br />

<br />
I stamped her shorts and purse on Daisy White Card Stock, so that the marker colors would show up true. Her arms on Colonial White C.S., and her collar on Smoothie C.S. Her hair is done with the two Crème Brûlée alcohol markers - just alternating them. Her socks are the light color. I used the darker Smoothie alcohol marker for her head band (Did you know that in England they call them Alice bands after Alice in Wonderland?) and the darker Smoothie on the flowers along with the darker Crème Brûlée. Annie's shorts, purse and shoes are colored in with Light Indian Corn Blue and shaded in with the darker. I love that each set of alcohol markers works together so beautifully for highlighting and shading. It makes coloring SO MUCH FUN!!<br />
<br />
For the card's background I was looking for minimal distraction from Annie. I wanted a nice setting for her, but no competition, so I steered clear from the other Clementine paper - pretty as they are, and just looked at coordinating card stock colors. I chose Smoothie and Crème Brûlée and cut them in long vertical pieces (since Annie is tall and has a strong vertical line) following the 1/3 rule so the card would be more interesting. Well, you can imagine how dull two pieces of plain card stock are, no matter how beautiful the colors. It obviously needed some pattern. I went to the Paper Doll stamp set D1547 for inspiration and lo and behold, there is a round stamp that resembles a parasol (top-down-view) that was perfect!!<br />

The "Hello" comes from <a href="http://karencreate.ctmh.com/Retail/Product.aspx?ItemID=6239&CatalogID=1829">A Garden</a> stamp set A1119<br />

<br />
Lastly, I added three bitty sparkles: two for the buttons and one on the purse's flower. They give just the right amount of glitz.<br />
<br />
I LOVE PAPER DOLLS!! When I was a little girl, my mom introduced me to Betsy McCall. She was the paper doll in every issue of McCall's magazine. Mom gave me a nylon's box to keep them in, and every month I would carefully cut out the clothes and, of course, save the story.<br />

Good memories!! Now I want to make Annie into a little girls's Birthday or Get Well card, with lots of clothes to color. :)<br />

This paper has such beautiful colors that I really adore it. It's called <a href="http://karencreate.ctmh.com/Retail/Product.aspx?ItemID=7154&CatalogID=1896">Later Sk8r</a>, and is thought of as "the boy paper." OK, of course, it is perfect for the guys, but having worked for so many years with Girl Scouts, it happened to strike me as equally popular with girls, so I purposefully re-imagined it here, defying expectations:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggvqXyo-cWkn_jWl6VjazmBFyg8OTvevlhFXmDthMhtYgAYvcgA1SCOR6nY3dxKRJA-g5hrj7ju59xwcUpaekqRRCb0hAI9EBP-nW0ICuCPAiffFBRaBoSVA9pvkqh5lCs7bbNLQkFqpBE/s1600/P1030700Fixed.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggvqXyo-cWkn_jWl6VjazmBFyg8OTvevlhFXmDthMhtYgAYvcgA1SCOR6nY3dxKRJA-g5hrj7ju59xwcUpaekqRRCb0hAI9EBP-nW0ICuCPAiffFBRaBoSVA9pvkqh5lCs7bbNLQkFqpBE/s320/P1030700Fixed.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
You may recognize this card design from one of my last cards. I especially like it for new paper packs because it shows off all of the different paper designs at one time. So pretty!! I distressed all of the edges of each piece of paper with the roughest grit sandpaper on the <a href="http://karencreate.ctmh.com/Retail/Product.aspx?ItemID=3386&CatalogID=1241">sanding block</a>. Here you can see the difference between the sanded "Girls Rock" versus the unsanded:<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
Originally I had planned to use more of the stamps from the <a href="http://karencreate.ctmh.com/Retail/Product.aspx?ItemID=7095&CatalogID=1854">Girls Rock</a> C1538 stamp set, but ended up highlighting each of the paper designs and then went for a quote. I think I will have to make a second card to explore the possibilities of this stamp set with this paper. I love the idea of using "the boy's paper" for the girls!!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
This new quote stamp set called <a href="http://karencreate.ctmh.com/Retail/Product.aspx?ItemID=7084&CatalogID=1854">Srapbook Statements - Women</a> B1421 is amazing. I love to collect quotes.<br />

<br />
One of the first gifts that I made for my husband back at Purdue when we were dating was a plastic canvas needlepoint-covered blank book (remember blank books?) for him to collect his quotes. (Yes, he still uses it!!) This quote about Ginger Rogers is one that I have in my collection!!<br />
<br />
Lastly, I had to add some of the new <a href="http://karencreate.ctmh.com/Retail/Product.aspx?ItemID=7160&CatalogID=176">green and blue epoxy bubbles</a> because they are so happy!!<br />

I have been away from the blogosphere, but not away from paper crafting. It has just been busy, busy, busy around here. My oldest son, Will, is right now en route to S. Korea where he will be living for the next year, teaching English to elementary school children. You may remember that my daughter, Lisa, did the same thing less than two years ago. We are all so excited for him.<br />
<br />
This is my advice for him:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2Lqa5ES9-Mx9XMFsa6XdUR1PpvH4CirK1DB7qAGA2liDGBEH_sJTTXuZiyVZUWRBPAdf-nebPls4MVuUYWJEPkVZBr_CEi8dRWGO8bYMBS8DK2t60e-vQdcXSUUW5pTvd990cxt7XW7_P/s1600/ZipperCard.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2Lqa5ES9-Mx9XMFsa6XdUR1PpvH4CirK1DB7qAGA2liDGBEH_sJTTXuZiyVZUWRBPAdf-nebPls4MVuUYWJEPkVZBr_CEi8dRWGO8bYMBS8DK2t60e-vQdcXSUUW5pTvd990cxt7XW7_P/s320/ZipperCard.jpg" width="246" /></a></div>
<br />
Yep, we have new paper and I LOVE it!! Of course, that means that I had to say, "Good-bye" to many of my favorites. :( I get really attached to paper and stickers and embellishments, etc. When I was a kid and had all of those pen pals, I kept the last sheet of every stationery set that I owned, and a sheet of all of my stickers. Some of it went into my scrapbook in high school and some of it is still in a box in my basement!! I'm trying not to keep my paper in a box these days, but to create with it and share it.<br />
<br />
A <a href="http://karencreate.ctmh.com/CTMH/Content.aspx?id=%2fen%2fsitecore%2fcontent%2fOBA%2fProducts%2fOnline_Idea_Book.aspx">new </a><a href="http://karencreate.ctmh.com/CTMH/Content.aspx?id=%2fen%2fsitecore%2fcontent%2fOBA%2fProducts%2fOnline_Idea_Book.aspx">Idea Book</a> means so many new goodies to play with!! <a href="http://karencreate.ctmh.com/Retail/Product.aspx?ItemID=7146&CatalogID=1885">Chantilly</a> paper is so bright and beautiful and I have a thing for paisley. :) I used this design for this card to show off every paper in the packet at one glance. The <a href="http://karencreate.ctmh.com/Retail/Product.aspx?ItemID=7180&CatalogID=176">Hollyhock Zipper Lace</a> is unique and it really struck my fancy. For the sentiment, I chose the Maya Angelou quote from the new stamp C1539 Scrapbook Statement - Poets. I did add the Pear card stock because my daughter loves green. :) I kept everything pretty clean and simple to let the paper colors and patterns speak for themselves, I did pop the paisley rectangle up with foam tape to help it compete with the zipper lace.<br />
<br />
Here's a photos of us at the airport this morning:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I'm on my tip-toes trying not to look too short next to Will, and my husband, Andrew, is hunkered down next to me in support. Lisa is actually taller than I am. (Tommy was home in bed with a nasty headache. Poor guy.)<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Bon Voyage Will - Enjoy the Journey!!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Lots of Love from your crazy family!!</div>

<span style="font-family: Georgia, Utopia, Palatino Linotype, Palatino, serif; font-size: medium;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Utopia, Palatino Linotype, Palatino, serif; font-size: medium;">Update for those of you who only get your news through this blog. My dad had a stroke on the last day of November. Lisa, Tom and I flew to Fargo the middle of the next week to see what we could do to help, and stayed for two weeks. Dad had a remarkably quick recovery!! It was fun to visit with the folks and their friends, decorate for Christmas, bake cookies and have time with Mom. We even got to see Dad sing with his choir.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Utopia, Palatino Linotype, Palatino, serif; font-size: medium;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Utopia, Palatino Linotype, Palatino, serif; font-size: medium;">Unfortunately, my husband, Andrew, ended up in the hospital (first time in 29 years of marriage, and I was so very far away), so we got in my parents' van and drove straight home. Andrew ended up being fine, and we celebrated Christmas back in Michigan, quiet and relatively uneventful, but ever so nice. Hope yours was wonder-filled as well!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Utopia, Palatino Linotype, Palatino, serif; font-size: medium;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Utopia, Palatino Linotype, Palatino, serif; font-size: medium;">In one of my last posts, November 18th, I was working on a card for one of my aunt's friends. Finally, I can show you the finished project.</span><br />

Lisa helped put up and decorate her grandparent's Christmas tree after Thanksgiving. I thought I should take the opportunity to photograph some of my old friends as, of course, I didn't make any of these for myself. I've learned to be a bit better about that these days.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilJzg8Xa7cJITXXZ6vWLo9JWjVE_eqk_cU7khVmU5TLE7wVi9eJvniX3kEKKFnMbWF5zWxAB4Pa3XTYLHST2KK8fIor7H_Oei0ceem2bWKzdPXo2xC0JUucgmGcJIHmMPzEwaGtrgIN7TY/s1600/RedQuillingFlat.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilJzg8Xa7cJITXXZ6vWLo9JWjVE_eqk_cU7khVmU5TLE7wVi9eJvniX3kEKKFnMbWF5zWxAB4Pa3XTYLHST2KK8fIor7H_Oei0ceem2bWKzdPXo2xC0JUucgmGcJIHmMPzEwaGtrgIN7TY/s320/RedQuillingFlat.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
Back in the day, I took ceramics classes so that I could make the bases for my quilling as well as a few other pieces. This is a potpourri container. I think it measures about 6" in height. This design is undoubtedly one of Malinda Johnston's, or closely based one. I think all of her books are out of print, but available on amazon.com. Her company, Lake City Crafts, still exists, but I don't know if she is associated with it anymore. She inspired me through all of my hours of quilling, and is one of the greats!!<br />
<br />
Now, here is a story that took place back in those days. It has nothing to do with crafts, but it's...<br />
Well, it's one of my often told stories!! (For some odd reason, there are weird formatting problems!?)<br />
<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">The Stranger in the Drive</span> (from storylane.com/karenclark)<br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Lisa was an infant, about two months old I think, and I didn't know </span><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">anyone in our neighborhood at the time. I'm not sure that it would have helped anyway.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Her bedroom faced the front of the house and ours the back. Behind us was all cornfield,</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">although to the sides we had neighbors. It was a pretty typical subdivision in the late 1980s.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Pretty much everyone was at work, just the baby and me at home in our little neighborhood. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">I never thought of it that way before.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">I looked in on our sweet little girl as she lay napping and then peeked out her window</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">at the beautiful Poplar Tree in the front yard when I spotted an old car in our driveway.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Huh? What's is that doing there? We don't know anyone. And there's a man just sitting </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">in it.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">My heart started racing. I checked Lisa. Still sleeping. I stood more to the side and just barely peeked.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">He is't making a move. Just sitting there, not exactly looking menacing, but not looking innocent either.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">I moved cautiously to my bedroom and peeked out my bedroom window for accomplices. No one there. I called </span><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">my husband at work (a good half hour away) and started filling him in as I proceeded around the house </span><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">furtively trying to spot anything out of the ordinary. I also continued to check on the stranger in the </span><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">car and, of course, my sleeping baby.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">I had quickly formulated an escape plan. There was a gate in the back fence into the corn field. The beagles, </span><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">baby and I could make a run for it into the next subdivision over which was so much larger than ours that surely </span><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">there must be someone home during the day. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">The stranger is still not making any move.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">I finally agreed with my husband to just call the police.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">I may be the only housewife in the history of housewives to have called the police on the police!! </span><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">He was an undercover cop!! It turns out that our subdivision was across the street from an apartment complex that </span><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">was known for it's seedier side. Well, not that well known. We didn't know!!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">The nice officer on the phone figured out fairly quickly what was going on (probably by calling the undercover cop </span><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">in the area to check it out!!) He told me that he knew the officer in my driveway and that he was a really nice guy </span><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">and that I shouldn't be worried. The next thing I knew, my doorbell was ringing and a very chagrined, very scruffy </span><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">young man was at my door apologizing profusely. I assured him that I was fine and that he was free to stay, but he </span><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">was so embarrassed that he got out of there as fast as he could go!!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">It turned out that our driveway gave him a beautiful vantage point to keep an eye out for a drug trafficker that he was, well, keeping </span><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">an eye on. He had no idea that he had been terrorizing me. He assumed that we were at work like all of the neighbors.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;">P.S. My daughter Lisa now does quilling and did hours and hours of it for her girlfriend Megan's wedding. Megan can now quill as well. They were very creative in all of the wedding preparations.</span><br />

We're back from our Thanksgiving visit (which was lovely, and yummy), and I had a pretty productive day today considering my headache. The new medicine either hasn't kicked in yet, or just isn't the answer. I'll keep trying it out though.<br />
<br />
This mini album is for one of my followers. I'm still trying to keep up on my birthday RAK (Random Acts of Kindness). It's time to up-date my list already. As usual, I could use an assistant!!!!<br />
<br />
Will was headed to Lily's party, so this is what I sent along with him:<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJBfRlm0vT2boCTKIkaEtRKYkTOkcBzwKsA8du0RR9ids885ecy8EKdVcYAmBAmup0J4CjUGMaQxEG9J-orcmZ31I1IoVVAz2jwQ02985z9jB3DzsI8927P_crgEgdMndk4ON8nIxQmeGw/s1600/LilyFront.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="314" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJBfRlm0vT2boCTKIkaEtRKYkTOkcBzwKsA8du0RR9ids885ecy8EKdVcYAmBAmup0J4CjUGMaQxEG9J-orcmZ31I1IoVVAz2jwQ02985z9jB3DzsI8927P_crgEgdMndk4ON8nIxQmeGw/s320/LilyFront.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I dyed the ribbon Smoothie with one of the new alcohol-base markers.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
First, I have to give total credit to<a href="http://sarabatkin.blogspot.com/"> Sara Batkin</a> for the base design of this mini album!! Check out more of her <a href="http://sarabatkin.blogspot.com/search/label/Flip%20Flap%20Album">Flip Flap Mini Albums here</a>.<br />

I love making these. This one is tiny - only 3" X 3".<br />

<br />
This album keeps unfolding as if by magic. The Smoothie card stock pages are stamped with a coordinating stamp set.<br />

Here's the back. This paper is Unforgettable. It's a retired pattern that I used because Will said that her party was at a Japanese restaurant.<br />

Why'd it Have to Be Pansies?My aunt would like me to make birthday cards for her Bridge Club, and the first one she requested is to have pansies. Did you know that I don't have a pansy stamp and I don't think Close to My Heart ever made one. I could be wrong, but I haven't found one.<br />
<br />
I walked around the house one day saying, "Pansies? Why couldn't it have been butterflies?" Do you know how many CTMH butterfly stamps there are? A LOT!! I'm not really upset at all. I love a challenge. It is actually much more fun to have to figure out a new way to do something, so this is what I am in the process of doing for my pansies:<br />
<br />
First, I looked at a lot of photos on Google. I picked one out and sketched it. Then I outlined it with a fine Sharpee marker. I traced the outline of the front 3 petals on a separate piece of paper and cut it out.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGg0vgWk18Nl8HCfUTn7s0kTc6a7kA-DZFObbcoDILY66zKEMRsy48PqlPFqO3Z6omOJxm89m02l_G9whVwfYM78w6ab-y8Bm0akhpO19wnWPty0Lw5cWwRx67JHlblcfICyi7eb1PXj5R/s1600/P1030396.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="151" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGg0vgWk18Nl8HCfUTn7s0kTc6a7kA-DZFObbcoDILY66zKEMRsy48PqlPFqO3Z6omOJxm89m02l_G9whVwfYM78w6ab-y8Bm0akhpO19wnWPty0Lw5cWwRx67JHlblcfICyi7eb1PXj5R/s320/P1030396.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I made another copy, but only traced one of the back petals.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNB96tMykMA1W5hzEfbFSerkFeuqO3B26Y01ShJnNs88LbvEtqUJdMn8jJx730AW8-_ec4josIxDlUNSeEBh6SggeO9-1X1hrT-EUhJxTCR-8GohLLiAOXfIeM3I-hoDBw3Jt4a0iCF8Sy/s1600/P1030397.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="188" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNB96tMykMA1W5hzEfbFSerkFeuqO3B26Y01ShJnNs88LbvEtqUJdMn8jJx730AW8-_ec4josIxDlUNSeEBh6SggeO9-1X1hrT-EUhJxTCR-8GohLLiAOXfIeM3I-hoDBw3Jt4a0iCF8Sy/s320/P1030397.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Below is my original sketch with the outline darkened for easier tracing, and the third stencil.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEge0IzYKwmPmdAAW4mECYdlSG765v6I2A0XBWZNblszfkEQZWO3tYgbkk_xD_i-WJeU2p7Wb8ZiqEtbJXtxoa1w8x2z30VOb9F8wQLDoxASfsNWbdidKYksTMmMYgNhxS0JhIh12T_j475O/s1600/P1030398.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="111" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEge0IzYKwmPmdAAW4mECYdlSG765v6I2A0XBWZNblszfkEQZWO3tYgbkk_xD_i-WJeU2p7Wb8ZiqEtbJXtxoa1w8x2z30VOb9F8wQLDoxASfsNWbdidKYksTMmMYgNhxS0JhIh12T_j475O/s320/P1030398.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I lightly sponged ink in all of the stencils as a guide for the below watercolor.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhycZrfOfkKTzx_2qXi-APaScNQ1BQZuwd3GbJwQ0BI-E7hp0sDSHs_prjeHYbc2CtsHUyAl0dxkXoonzncHjx1I7UnIuNYiN_n1dCQ1oJq2S99IxMKBop6l-tYffxaFpiywZgnrg3nPGEc/s1600/P1030399.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhycZrfOfkKTzx_2qXi-APaScNQ1BQZuwd3GbJwQ0BI-E7hp0sDSHs_prjeHYbc2CtsHUyAl0dxkXoonzncHjx1I7UnIuNYiN_n1dCQ1oJq2S99IxMKBop6l-tYffxaFpiywZgnrg3nPGEc/s320/P1030399.JPG" width="317" /></a></div>
<br />
This is my first of three pansies that I am planning for the birthday card. I had to set it aside to work on some time sensitive things, but I can't wait to get back to finish it!!<br />

<span style="line-height: 115%; text-indent: -0.25in;"><span style="line-height: normal;">Today is the unit meeting for Northern Stars, our area group of Close to My Heart consultants. In addition to catching up on the news and sharing lunch, we will have a chance to go around the room and learn (or remember) 12 techniques. Each technique is done at a station, on a different 3" X 3" square of paper, so that at the end each person will have a book ring with their technique squares attached.</span></span></div>

I met her through storylane.com where we have been enjoying each other's stories. She has another blog that I think you will be especially interested in if you are looking for creative inspiration. Check out <a href="http://mulicolouredhues.blogspot.com/2012/11/rice-paste-rangoli-big-picture.html">a splash of colour</a> to see her beautiful Rangoli (an Indian folk art) designs - you will be impressed!!<br />
<br />
I made today's card to mark two special events. The first was Dawn's birthday. Dawn is a new friend that I have met through Close to My Heart. She lives in my subdivision, so I am hoping that we will be seeing a lot more of each other. She has already helped me out a couple of times when I was in desperate need of red sparkles and specific colors of card stock. She made it on the birthday list!! The birthday list guarantees that I will make you a card. It turns out that it doesn't guarantee that it will be on time!!<br />
<br />
Secondly, Dawn's artwork is currently<a href="http://www.jeanettelynton.com/2012/11/spotlight-on-art-so-grateful.html"> in the spotlight</a> on<a href="http://www.jeanettelynton.com/"> Jeanette Lynton</a>'s (CEO of Close to My Heart) blog. This is a huge honor and Dawn really deserves it. Everything that she makes is beautifully done.<br />
<br />
To make my combination Birthday - Congratulations card, I wanted to use the Clementine paper because that was what Dawn used for her projects. I have been shying away from making a clear card because I'm still trying to understand how best to take advantage of it's unique properties. I give myself a B- on my use of the clear card, but I am happy with it, and I really enjoyed making it.<br />
<br />

<br />
This design is based on <a href="http://sweetstopsketches.blogspot.com/2012/11/sss184-november-10.html">Sketch #184</a> from <a href="http://sweetstopsketches.blogspot.com/">The Sweet Spot Sketch Challenge Blog</a>. It's a fun sketch and it looks like this:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYh2qpVEIt8YnwwbjciESJ7iXMFsFR4T52BztyiLGXOVYAcHDwhyHWxX2Q8HYN2Sly4iLa_7oSAaX8Z3BbQpWceYwUfyik9OfotbGEIlbPCTykxLy4Hk8MbRbsV57bcV4qHXqkOCzOxmoF/s1600/SSS%23184.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="247" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYh2qpVEIt8YnwwbjciESJ7iXMFsFR4T52BztyiLGXOVYAcHDwhyHWxX2Q8HYN2Sly4iLa_7oSAaX8Z3BbQpWceYwUfyik9OfotbGEIlbPCTykxLy4Hk8MbRbsV57bcV4qHXqkOCzOxmoF/s320/SSS%23184.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
My blog was completely finished and something happened. I am trying to reconstruct it, but I have no idea what I wrote here!! I am sure it was extremely clever... Oh, I think it was that I probably could have photographed this card better to show that it is see-through, but I was mostly concerned with keeping my reflection out of the photo. Darn. Not so clever after all.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibovycIN5d0QM3T_e6AI6mWu99CIFL1nsj60cR-GBexg-yCA35t3a9WmGLIP2W56NrpMC0ySq08xjlkV_5aoElNEP3kQHMcXM8X1F0vqRXaHrmjPYOWobG7cr0GawjxBZCcqicqMmmqS5L/s1600/P1030390.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="246" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibovycIN5d0QM3T_e6AI6mWu99CIFL1nsj60cR-GBexg-yCA35t3a9WmGLIP2W56NrpMC0ySq08xjlkV_5aoElNEP3kQHMcXM8X1F0vqRXaHrmjPYOWobG7cr0GawjxBZCcqicqMmmqS5L/s320/P1030390.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Now for the reveal. I have to retake this photo because it is supposed to say 'Dawn' on the upper left-hand side. I am very pleased with the sentiment. It's perfect for both Birthday and Congratulations: "May This Be Your Grandest Year Yet!'<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhoPooVefUdq4aDd4MIZPV0imkzO4opHKM8juFG8bVPceck1y9Jquda-JzC_zIbM4T-aA8JIuBUOA-c9mfWThi9Oo9areP-q2QWYrs2yQ4ekEFmNWvlSH1w8oQAJowRmD0FygteHZybwseH/s1600/P1030389.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="144" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhoPooVefUdq4aDd4MIZPV0imkzO4opHKM8juFG8bVPceck1y9Jquda-JzC_zIbM4T-aA8JIuBUOA-c9mfWThi9Oo9areP-q2QWYrs2yQ4ekEFmNWvlSH1w8oQAJowRmD0FygteHZybwseH/s320/P1030389.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I thought balloons were appropriately festive, so I printed them on the reverse of the seasonal circles.<br />

Sorry, our computer gremlin is back and I have just about had enough!! Fortunately, Lisa's gone to bed for the night thus freeing up <b>her</b> laptop. So I am back in business, so to speak.<br />
<br />
This card was an adventure in itself. It is for Andrew's Uncle Jerry who I greedily claim as my uncle as well because he's a real sweetie!! Jerry is a lot like my dad in the way that he's always smiling, and always fixing things!! Today is Jerry's actual birthday, so right there you know that I was stressed a bit starting this project. I am behind on my schedule and mentally beating myself up. Why, oh why can't I make birthday cards ahead of time?<br />
<br />
The good news is that all of the tags went out in the mail today. I had Tommy do the Quality Control check on every single tag this morning and he did catch a few things. I glued a couple of weak spots, glittered a missed bow and printed the back of a tag. How on Earth did that get missed??<br />
<br />
Back to the saga. I wrote Jerry an email this morning to say "Happy Birthday" so that he would still receive my greetings, and to let him know that a card is coming. In my email I said something about a bear hug. I thought maybe I could do something with that in my card, so I looked through my stamps and ended up with Wild Thing C1284 (retired). I really like the bear, but getting it to hug was going to take some work. I decided to start with the front of the card and let the inside "simmer on the back burner." I don't recommend designing cards this way. This is just usually the way it happens for me.<br />
<br />
I was toying with something like "which of these animals would you want to hug you?" when I set up this:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJagGsbY3QCDCJLYiufIvPpL9it0N6QXELwn5bNnNssADyXMDEz6E5Mt3Hxo5a0Ox2jWarqppT7Se9ZyrBjGGRUhNV14PB2zdOon6K1_9eV24mAq8ohKmhgHo81lnb_F9R27yNm5bt9fyN/s1600/JerryFront.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJagGsbY3QCDCJLYiufIvPpL9it0N6QXELwn5bNnNssADyXMDEz6E5Mt3Hxo5a0Ox2jWarqppT7Se9ZyrBjGGRUhNV14PB2zdOon6K1_9eV24mAq8ohKmhgHo81lnb_F9R27yNm5bt9fyN/s320/JerryFront.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
Tom was on the other side of the table and said, "Lions and Tigers and Bears, so the inside is going to say - Oh My!?" I was stunned. It really was a lion, tiger and bear. Huh. <br />
<br />
At that point I only had the placement of the animals and their framing. Next, I distressed all of the paper and it changed everything. Suddenly it looked as though the animals had been nibbling and scratching at the paper and it took on a more organic feel. The negative spaces looked really dead in comparison. Burlap!!<br />
<br />
I am really pretty allergic to burlap. Not like I am to cats, but I probably shouldn't be working with the stuff, but art is a cruel master. I'm just kidding. Even though I knew that I would probably have an asthma attack, it needed burlap, so I just didn't have a choice. (I did use my Advair a couple of hours early, and I kept my inhaler on stand-by!!)<br />
<br />
After the burlap, the upper and lower right-hand corners still looked too empty. Tommy vehemently opposed the buttons (which I still contend would have looked good), so I came up with these paws made out of the<a href="http://karencreate.ctmh.com/Retail/Product.aspx?ItemID=6571&CatalogID=176"> Durables Round Studs</a>, which are little studs on foam stickers.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIW9tvydm_cIJv5pVA99dqPkDBEMu6SJx3gQ_TJ9gfSAQYYOnFyX2JXOi2SjsYW205lxuYjAi4e9CMc241Vlme3D4uG3T3kxaUuHRXPymJDpnhaKYk5LbPt46kTQuaMkiecsyc8rvzz1la/s1600/JerryInside.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIW9tvydm_cIJv5pVA99dqPkDBEMu6SJx3gQ_TJ9gfSAQYYOnFyX2JXOi2SjsYW205lxuYjAi4e9CMc241Vlme3D4uG3T3kxaUuHRXPymJDpnhaKYk5LbPt46kTQuaMkiecsyc8rvzz1la/s320/JerryInside.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
Tom stamped the paw prints on the inside of the card, and more on the back.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3MQS9c70P2_NUGvk0hWXXSUsT2W2uBdXh-sOXdHisv_gJu25YsGbUY-s81ZlpR-UYFsM5W6BLwTWCdYhvOQ_KCS6LVpuW9nqwcYdRpdsXVwZmW80v6-C4xaHyAH-bm6ufkLFWVr4yRg8S/s1600/LionStamp.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="168" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3MQS9c70P2_NUGvk0hWXXSUsT2W2uBdXh-sOXdHisv_gJu25YsGbUY-s81ZlpR-UYFsM5W6BLwTWCdYhvOQ_KCS6LVpuW9nqwcYdRpdsXVwZmW80v6-C4xaHyAH-bm6ufkLFWVr4yRg8S/s320/LionStamp.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
This was a little technique that I accidentally invented!! I was testing ink colors for Leonidas (I mentally name all of my little animal friends.) I first tried Bamboo because that is the color that is used to distress the paper in the Elementals packet. Bamboo was much too light to hold it's own against all that was going on in the card, even at that point, so I tried Cocoa. This was just a test, so I stamped the Cocoa image over the Bamboo and it POPPED!! I was off just a tiny bit and a 3-D effect happened, as in the photo above.<br />
<br />
When I tried to do the same with Bamboo and Chocolate for the bear Gom (pronounced gome, but you have to say it fast - Korean for bear, but it also has the connotation of slow and kinda dumb) the effect worked, but not as well, maybe the lion's mane was the key. Lastly, the tiger, Slugger. He is printed in Brown Bag and Bamboo. I tried this so many times that I made myself sick. Seriously. I was dizzy and sort of motion sick (This happens to me a lot!!). I would either stamp the images too perfectly one on top of the other, or too far apart so that there was a horrible interference that made the cat look extremely nervous!! Tommy ended up printing the one that we used.<br />
<br />

It was a lot of fun and I would do it again!!<br />
<br />
This is what the final project looks like:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfnerPBBHCHTKgAIkTQqxhMbCAIuQLYIwnnJUY8riFYirbG_GpPfxXvtV2RPhrxeQXAxLax9EkJYtW47lN53nrs9TZuejxqv7skbAQOtvkQRAltHFuhaeENoIDiNpEhsEoJLlcH-McHcRd/s1600/ModernTraditional.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfnerPBBHCHTKgAIkTQqxhMbCAIuQLYIwnnJUY8riFYirbG_GpPfxXvtV2RPhrxeQXAxLax9EkJYtW47lN53nrs9TZuejxqv7skbAQOtvkQRAltHFuhaeENoIDiNpEhsEoJLlcH-McHcRd/s320/ModernTraditional.jpg" width="254" /></a></div>
<br />
The top of the pink ornament is embossed in silver, cut out and glued over the top of the Cricut shape. The ornament is attached by Baker's Twine so that it actually swings. It makes me smile every time!! The tag is Pear card stock stamped with Garden Green ink. I used New England Ivy for the TO and FROM.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBSm5NqKF640BT6x1kzsgoDclM_FipFAv75T-xB6Wl2ZKzARctP3KQnu7oThLL444IvwYzGFPlFtZKgQyyWlF2fQcZNg2Vf1ZIPMpKD2Itq9DNna8niZSIhbvOtHwaSxHL803NT0VnwtlL/s1600/ModTradWithBears.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="211" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBSm5NqKF640BT6x1kzsgoDclM_FipFAv75T-xB6Wl2ZKzARctP3KQnu7oThLL444IvwYzGFPlFtZKgQyyWlF2fQcZNg2Vf1ZIPMpKD2Itq9DNna8niZSIhbvOtHwaSxHL803NT0VnwtlL/s320/ModTradWithBears.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I had to weigh down the ornaments when they dried, or else they curled from all of that glitter glue. In order to get enough weight in a small area, I had to recruit some of my teddy bear friends!!<br />

Hello everyone, this is Karen's son Tom. We've decided to continue with the guest blog theme for at least another day but don't be surprised if Karen isn't back tomorrow and someone else is writing. My project was painting and building a traditional wooden house music box that my sister Lisa got in Korea. We've had it for a while but only just today opened it and built it. So, without further ado, here it is.</div>

Now, to do this I needed to paint some of the pieces but we don't have a good supply of paint or at least a good variety but Karen had an idea to use her Waterbrush from CTMH to paint with the ink from ink pads (I love CTMH) This technique is displayed in a previous blog post called <a href="http://karencreate.blogspot.com/2012/09/thinking-of-you-card.html">Thinking of You Card 2.0</a>.</div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Above, you can see the black mat that forms the roofing of the house. I had to use two wooden pieces that came in the set specifically to trace around with an X-Acto knife to make the correct size and shape of the black mat for the roof that you see in the above pictures. Anyway, my dad Andrew and I then glued together the pieces that needed to be glued and also the black mats to the roof. This didn't take long but afterwards I had a lot of dried glue on my hands and it took a while to get it all off. An hour later I still found some on my arm. I sometimes hate sticky stuff :) Well, this is the end for my guest post, Goodnight.</div>

This is Karen's daughter Lisa. Karen didn't have anything to post today, but I had made a card so she suggested I blog for her :)<br />
I know she has mentioned in a different post that my friend is studying in the Bahamas. Her parents visited her recently (I dog sat for them) so they brought me some presents. I made this card as a thank you.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi02rgvDsudHFm99YY6AkQGZoIficOj6uDm56lgZNcgokQHj-h5V9DEdK5cCoPu2vihdb-ONEtCKztyY0AsQxqdv8WFzrfuojVhOS7Vjmumgk-Xhcbo8KU10Uy5m6ULgsk8GcOLXD2YsNEV/s1600/TurtleFront.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi02rgvDsudHFm99YY6AkQGZoIficOj6uDm56lgZNcgokQHj-h5V9DEdK5cCoPu2vihdb-ONEtCKztyY0AsQxqdv8WFzrfuojVhOS7Vjmumgk-Xhcbo8KU10Uy5m6ULgsk8GcOLXD2YsNEV/s320/TurtleFront.jpg" width="243" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="text-align: center;">For the card I used footloose paper, which is my favorite paper from CMTH evah!! I thought the beachy feel was good for the Bahamas. Megan got married last May and I was her maid of honor. Her wedding was all pink and orange with tons of sparkles, so I made sure to use some smoothie ink and lots of glitter glue.</span><br />
<span style="text-align: center;">Most of the stamps come from the footloose workshop on the go stamps, but the mosaic swirls and the boarder around the turtle are from an older stamp set, my mom recently bought called Bon Voyage D1316.</span><br />
<span style="text-align: center;">I don't know how well you can see it in the photo, but I was careful to put the glitter glue only on the green parts of the turtle shell and not the white lines, it was fun and looked great when I was done. </span><br />
<span style="text-align: center;">If you look at the edges of the paper rectangles, you can see that I used scissors to distress the edges and then sponge distressed them with creme brulee ink. I like how it turned out with raggedy edges alongside the glitzy glitter.</span><br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxyI2mPwZastJ2o0WCERgSNwesR3etrseaZ5tXWVSfKD9loI5eHZzrpE9iDAI4rP0tM-flxoAFwNjfXnttQW2L0fPKNrMNOO1jl2-3F6Lku3VoLfb1rE4nSJqKNldi2utcnmueb4pue8Hm/s1600/TurtleInside.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxyI2mPwZastJ2o0WCERgSNwesR3etrseaZ5tXWVSfKD9loI5eHZzrpE9iDAI4rP0tM-flxoAFwNjfXnttQW2L0fPKNrMNOO1jl2-3F6Lku3VoLfb1rE4nSJqKNldi2utcnmueb4pue8Hm/s320/TurtleInside.jpg" width="235" /></a><span style="text-align: center;">On the inside I put Thanks from A Little Thanks D1444. I love this set because I made about a hundred thank you cards for Megan for her wedding. I use this set for every thank you card I make.</span><br />

This is what I put on the back of the card. I always put something on the back of my cards as a reward for anyone who checks. I'm sure Megan and her mom will notice, the clam is in pink and the circle is green. Megan and I are complete opposites and compliments so we joke about our favorite colors being compliments as well :)<br />

Well, that's all from me. I hope you like my art as well as my mom's. She should be back tomorrow with something new. Thanks for visiting with my mom and me today.<br />

Modern refers to the color palette, in this case Pear and Cotton Candy.<br />
<br />
This is one of my the ornaments for the tag that I am designing:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJL4OZXFM-utTa15JP-8skp5RYfUlAOAwFwrRy0cChvG7_Qd6HJsDVzTRbI0BxOcGoRNbzzFU2tEwLHlDIUGr3lGUcKhlYHSakbYJy31CD3-PO9Ydqv9Z2VPZSw7bGKys-69Hgpq0YPgHn/s1600/Modern+Traditional+Tag+Ornament.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="249" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJL4OZXFM-utTa15JP-8skp5RYfUlAOAwFwrRy0cChvG7_Qd6HJsDVzTRbI0BxOcGoRNbzzFU2tEwLHlDIUGr3lGUcKhlYHSakbYJy31CD3-PO9Ydqv9Z2VPZSw7bGKys-69Hgpq0YPgHn/s320/Modern+Traditional+Tag+Ornament.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
It required the masking technique with a little twist, so I thought I would share it today. First I stamped the entire ornament on thin scrap paper and cut out the bird. I put some repositional adhesive on the backside of the bird, then set the good-side against the stamp exactly in place.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMWcYZZhiW1j9S5VYVwnGpXrOufpbT3vlH4RIdYlywPJwJeszCkEsGnh3eFYOw6cuSS-_TfAl8Z7uShsI3K3fyVXMjy2xo3UMqrRcPw3Xz3rafLgWu0MX2Epr4oPH7V9wZPn5r6C1dhlbT/s1600/Modern+Traditional+Tag+Masking.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="231" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMWcYZZhiW1j9S5VYVwnGpXrOufpbT3vlH4RIdYlywPJwJeszCkEsGnh3eFYOw6cuSS-_TfAl8Z7uShsI3K3fyVXMjy2xo3UMqrRcPw3Xz3rafLgWu0MX2Epr4oPH7V9wZPn5r6C1dhlbT/s320/Modern+Traditional+Tag+Masking.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
It stuck there well enough while I lined it up on my ornament shape. I pressed the un-inked stamp down and the bird mask stuck with the repositional adhesive. Now it is perfectly in place to mask the bird. Below you can see the mask alone on an ornament, as well as the finished stamp once the mask has been removed.<br />
<br />
Also note on the carrier sheet, around the stamp image there is a little line and the numbers 2.5". This lets me know to set my Cricut at 2.5" when I am cutting this shape on the CTMH Art Philosophy cartridge, so that it is the perfect size for this stamp.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4iBSMe5laG1Zc0okchpUPsLEPTv3EXdjjc7gSt1Z4PE9YKpBi7Xl_PLo5_i1IIsp5vFgETqaBB7qtSkmXvfyhGYvEHZjNowxUOHndHufuR9Qhg5KP3yrhIDUQ4rIKvsbdllNGXs9bbnMY/s1600/Modern+Traditional+Tag+Pieces.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="223" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4iBSMe5laG1Zc0okchpUPsLEPTv3EXdjjc7gSt1Z4PE9YKpBi7Xl_PLo5_i1IIsp5vFgETqaBB7qtSkmXvfyhGYvEHZjNowxUOHndHufuR9Qhg5KP3yrhIDUQ4rIKvsbdllNGXs9bbnMY/s320/Modern+Traditional+Tag+Pieces.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Lastly, I cut a rectangle that was 1" X 1 1/4" to fit just the bird.I inked the center of this ornament in Cotton Candy and just printed the bird. I attached it with foam tape for a little dimension.<br />
<br />
I hope to be able to show you the finished tags tomorrow because time is running out!! Tick, tick, tick..<br />

I signed up for a tag swap in four different categories. This one is vintage. Vintage is <i>really</i> IN right now. I know how to distress the edges of paper, but I haven't ever really "done vintage." I looked through my Christmas stamps several times and I guess that I haven't bought much of what I would call vintage, so then it came down to this: go shopping? borrow stamps? or make something work? My first inclination was to borrow because I knew of the perfect set of stamps* that I was sure that I could make work, but I really hate to bother people, so chickened out. I could buy something, but I have been really trying to keep this blog Close to my Heart!! Plus, I rarely buy anyone else's stamps anymore. So, make what I have work!! I knew it was going to come down to this!! Why do I fight it?<br />
<br />
In yesterday's post, I talked about how it takes a few tries to get things right. Here is another example:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEig81WFkgigkBvGaafVZnFtU0MCgxx86W57_yIwep0bSzch7O-_6_2zY4xAVeiz1RKEDzp4oxqtKDiakRxc_yueopmveKtmnzDsZVTNreKseQDG1m4NzV0Qa5f0I7nc8aPPOJDcCkBcFAVG/s1600/NakedVintage.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEig81WFkgigkBvGaafVZnFtU0MCgxx86W57_yIwep0bSzch7O-_6_2zY4xAVeiz1RKEDzp4oxqtKDiakRxc_yueopmveKtmnzDsZVTNreKseQDG1m4NzV0Qa5f0I7nc8aPPOJDcCkBcFAVG/s320/NakedVintage.jpg" width="202" /></a></div>
<br />
My idea was that when you lift up the plain cover tag, you would see the decoration, but then where do write the "To:" and the "From:"? If you write that on the cover, there is really no need to look inside:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi80K5jNgYUzv02VoDCCC0EgKeNNR7itXVXg0NnqD4u19TrSEfd2zlKx0XjJHPlmtHlOGkvKyrIpXEeu9zMWBfuliD1kK0Bqhgn7AikZ62lDtRM7L479K8Da50OG8B0lQ8WBH6cmHAipwzw/s1600/VintageStep2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi80K5jNgYUzv02VoDCCC0EgKeNNR7itXVXg0NnqD4u19TrSEfd2zlKx0XjJHPlmtHlOGkvKyrIpXEeu9zMWBfuliD1kK0Bqhgn7AikZ62lDtRM7L479K8Da50OG8B0lQ8WBH6cmHAipwzw/s320/VintageStep2.jpg" width="197" /></a></div>
<br />
So, I tried switching that around. The background music stamp has to be stamped twice to fill the tag, but because you can see through the block it is pretty easy to line it up right. On the upper right you can see a tag that has already been distressed.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvawU0St47bXTnVh6T-bAjXw85_tQnhbfTo-LwOh2ONLLiaUDW4vwSr-p4Eoc623iD8zG3FTlePL2afQtZCAWrcJ29HWL8MpFjOvXRvvdAxgOPAQAAN-CpS2M9B4h_RpRgal9xAyMaqLzW/s1600/DistressedAndNot.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvawU0St47bXTnVh6T-bAjXw85_tQnhbfTo-LwOh2ONLLiaUDW4vwSr-p4Eoc623iD8zG3FTlePL2afQtZCAWrcJ29HWL8MpFjOvXRvvdAxgOPAQAAN-CpS2M9B4h_RpRgal9xAyMaqLzW/s320/DistressedAndNot.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
For this swap, there is a requirement of, at least two embellishments. I knew sparkles were out of the question. I asked Will and he said buttons, ribbon and metal. Smart guy!!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIIg_rq7-5nUx22sO8xyAVvObkomuqA5Njws1CfuwX8kIxrbFfj05E0YBY7FRvUelup66puKDNcuiyQgkVU6BOOBx1sFCj1eBzxEkWU8n3s5ghmisDkqlaoVkuXAVcc0CfjUksDz4cJ9-r/s1600/SortingVintageButtons.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="220" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIIg_rq7-5nUx22sO8xyAVvObkomuqA5Njws1CfuwX8kIxrbFfj05E0YBY7FRvUelup66puKDNcuiyQgkVU6BOOBx1sFCj1eBzxEkWU8n3s5ghmisDkqlaoVkuXAVcc0CfjUksDz4cJ9-r/s320/SortingVintageButtons.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
That was Lisa looking through old buttons - real vintage!!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhn1RPcr65tqFiNQo7sqD7bUMYmU_6U_qjUqZTCrkimwmZYP0sM93Kd4VB86h1IuHOJXCiYms2btJ-AOPG9DWlaXIb7FsIX0HxLuVje2Y5NQWMV1clGg-mPOFitPkQEeQLJaU4Z4xsAbvC6/s1600/VintageFront.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhn1RPcr65tqFiNQo7sqD7bUMYmU_6U_qjUqZTCrkimwmZYP0sM93Kd4VB86h1IuHOJXCiYms2btJ-AOPG9DWlaXIb7FsIX0HxLuVje2Y5NQWMV1clGg-mPOFitPkQEeQLJaU4Z4xsAbvC6/s320/VintageFront.jpg" width="203" /></a></div>
<br />
I tinted the ribbon with matching ink. I'm very happy with the color. I sewed the button on with embroidery floss that Lisa dug out of her room.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJ8dPpdwm70D0a8XUpL3VFARDHWyq2b2bz_iK-FT25KX8TmB4n1qr_tXqtbucRjiab7odnGKrPknrGmuLqqaER6yWajW-l-8xT9kh_anCpgnmJK3OqVIFLSwb5ZccsqqZIgqYcTAdRUw08/s1600/VintageInside.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJ8dPpdwm70D0a8XUpL3VFARDHWyq2b2bz_iK-FT25KX8TmB4n1qr_tXqtbucRjiab7odnGKrPknrGmuLqqaER6yWajW-l-8xT9kh_anCpgnmJK3OqVIFLSwb5ZccsqqZIgqYcTAdRUw08/s320/VintageInside.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>
<br />
Yes, I sewed around the edge. Lisa had a matching green embroidery floss that I had to put to use.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjp8p3_ldqyVrDYhyHs63PjLsyVmUnWr6I17moZNxslJ79AuJ4XAVpLnvJVfLqSzwBJuFM2iTLRKaUfTCe-eurA38nI4P76PvZeaZWifhie3tEvBvsEftp4J0a7-ao41XnVIeSG0n-m9zRZ/s1600/MusicSewn.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjp8p3_ldqyVrDYhyHs63PjLsyVmUnWr6I17moZNxslJ79AuJ4XAVpLnvJVfLqSzwBJuFM2iTLRKaUfTCe-eurA38nI4P76PvZeaZWifhie3tEvBvsEftp4J0a7-ao41XnVIeSG0n-m9zRZ/s320/MusicSewn.jpg" width="205" /></a></div>
<br />
I finished off the back of the tags with a second generation print of the music notes. While I was sewing, I was shocked that my allergies weren't giving me any problems. I am allergic to old books and papers. This tag looked so old, that I forgot that it was new paper. Yep, I fooled myself!!<br />
<br />
*This is the stamp set that I would have borrowed. Christmas Delights D1518. Vintage, right?<br />

<br />
Also, something arrived that's kept us preoccupied...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
...the Cricut E2. <br />
<br />
Today, Tom has said, "I love this Cricut" so many times!! This is actually a gift from my parents. They are enjoying my blog, and the things I have been making for them, and I am REALLY LUCKY!! (and they love me a lot too.) THANKS Mom and Dad!! Christmas has truly come early this year!!<br />
<br />
Since we started making the layouts for the NICU families, Tom has started saying, "I love Close to my Heart!!" at random times. He loves the way everything coordinates. He really loves the different papers. It makes me so happy to see him having fun creating. He keeps asking if he can use a certain paper , and I keep saying YES. Go for it - Have fun!! <span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">:D</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: inherit;">You want to hear something really crazy? I started my other blog a week ago and I already have 218 followers. How crazy is that? </span><br />

I need some sleep now. ;)<br />

He is actually a member of my family!! Hi Dad ;) Everyone, this is my Dad. He's the one who has been baking bread for all their friends. See my third post to <a href="http://karencreate.blogspot.com/2012/08/tags-for-dads-homemade-bread_6.html">learn more</a>. My mom follows my blog too, but she gets it by email.</span> <span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> :D</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Today's photo is just a little study I did. I want to use this stamp on some Christmas cards, but I'm not sure what I want to do with it yet. I tried stamping the wreath up-side-down and altering the bow. I liked the alteration, but the clear glitz gel turned a bright green on the New England Ivy paper, so I will leave that off next time.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBMvImUzde-6KS3C8RsOR9vKzhMtDrr8Fu_pM9M4TNBVhRx1BP7AWxdS63UgqsXiJYpk49WAZDWQr-EpGN6r9cGuZKUY2rxagYdb_LDeWeKaOVwwpAAPtsvcyOu7pt0DOgkxJSCBLBZlm0/s1600/WreathTag.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBMvImUzde-6KS3C8RsOR9vKzhMtDrr8Fu_pM9M4TNBVhRx1BP7AWxdS63UgqsXiJYpk49WAZDWQr-EpGN6r9cGuZKUY2rxagYdb_LDeWeKaOVwwpAAPtsvcyOu7pt0DOgkxJSCBLBZlm0/s320/WreathTag.jpg" width="198" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I first stamped the bird's breast in Crème Brûlée, then rolled it very carefully in Cranberry. I liked that effect. I was mimicking a photo from the Idea Book. I'm not sure how theirs was done. Then I added the clear glitz just for fun. I think it's maybe OK on the bird. I also tried it on one of the flowers, but it was horrible, so I wiped it off.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">The main effect I was trying out this evening was the tiny cutout flowers. I built them up with two layers. I think it was worth the extra cutting, although my right thumb got a bit sore. ;) Oh well, such is the price we pay!!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">The reason I'm blogging about this is so that people who are new to stamping, etc., realize that what you see on blogs is often not a first attempt (OK, sometimes it is, and I make better ones later...) But often, I have tried a bunch of things that just haven't worked out. For example, yesterday, I was going to make a Christmas card with a cardinal and a nest full of eggs - part way through a little voice in my head said, "Wait!! Don't birds usually lay their eggs in Spring? Just because there are eggs on this sheet of stamps doesn't mean that they meant for you to use them with the branch of holly leaves and berries!!!" So, I altered my card to just a cardinal on a branch, and used my eggs in the nest to start a page for a technique notebook. Efficient of me, eh? And you never would have known if I hadn't told you.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Just don't get too frustrated when things aren't going smoothly. You would be surprised how many wrong cuts I make, how many poor images I stamp and how many times I just sit and wonder where I thought I was headed with this project. Somehow though, it usually comes together in the end. Keep on Stamping!!!</span><br />

I don't know why. I just decide these things. I used to have such a thing back in the day, probably 1996, when I was the Arts and Crafts Director at the Girl Scout camp. That was a fun summer!! (Another story for my storylane blog!! Yea. There's another decision made!!)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Masking Technique:</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">This is used when you want to combine two images. I have a cardinal stamp and a branch stamp. In order to make the cardinal appear to be in front of the branch, I actually have to stamp it first!!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>

Christmas is looming!! I've got to get going on my tags for the swap. This is what I am designing for the Modern category:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6ZoR8g_F0TPviOcfNxlrCdexSyNUPhhgaRqsIDMacvWzoxOA1EYBtnAPVyCXku9981fPRz9uJlR3-q12URG1812iVTpbcQjCbacJxgO8_-T4T0V4spg6NA274zi3r_Bj4w112PP8D92Kp/s1600/SantaTag1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="177" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6ZoR8g_F0TPviOcfNxlrCdexSyNUPhhgaRqsIDMacvWzoxOA1EYBtnAPVyCXku9981fPRz9uJlR3-q12URG1812iVTpbcQjCbacJxgO8_-T4T0V4spg6NA274zi3r_Bj4w112PP8D92Kp/s320/SantaTag1.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
After seeing it on the computer like this, I think it needs a present on the right side for balance!!<br />
<br />
The joke is that after you peek in the bag, you get told not to.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSXei7qFjmxt4BQ4cnkTuyX9WmeaSaxbb3lr9ZtYuweDFf_3CpGf-8kHfYMIp-pFoOgxgLAYG4YGqS0q5cXVzyj65En8NnDmvqKDVkQk1flSPXt6ia7zmULmOqG85i94e4KeRwHe97PK3S/s1600/SantaTag2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="140" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSXei7qFjmxt4BQ4cnkTuyX9WmeaSaxbb3lr9ZtYuweDFf_3CpGf-8kHfYMIp-pFoOgxgLAYG4YGqS0q5cXVzyj65En8NnDmvqKDVkQk1flSPXt6ia7zmULmOqG85i94e4KeRwHe97PK3S/s320/SantaTag2.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I see that I also have to line Santa's hat and hand on the back because this way it looks pretty tacky (and not just because you can see glue!!)<br />
<br />
A few minor adjustments, then I make a batch of nine more. At that point I will be half way done. See? That's not so bad!!<br />
<br />
